2008 was a busy year for Guy - and it was his debut year as a soloist!
As well as recording an album with the Wessex Male Choir, competing in the Swindon & Marlow Music Festivals, singing at private functions, singing as a bass soloist in a Haydn Mass, Guy also successfully auditioned for parts with both White Horse Opera and Kennet Opera and performed in a number of other concerts.

October 2008 Guy's first ever experience as a leading man was in the tenor role of Danilo in White Horse Opera's production of Lehar's "The Merry Widow"
".. it was tremendous fun, and of course, The Merry Widow is such a feel-good opera with so many wonderful, memorable tunes..." "...I was very grateful to White Horse opera for giving me my first major role!"

On the Orchestra front, the Wessex Concert Orchestra performed 4 great concerts during the year, including a fantastic pro-am concert with The Orchestra of the Swan at Malmesbury Abbey in September which featured the magical Scheherezade by Rimsky-Korsakov and a contemporary work, Spirit Symphony, by Belizean-born composer Errollyn Wallen.

November 2008 Guy played Papageno in Kennet Opera's production of Mozart's Magic Flute. "... what an absolute gift of a role: wonderful arias and ensembles and the chance to play such a fun character!.." "The Magic Flute was the first opera I ever saw. I've always loved it and singing Papageno will always hold very special memories for me!" |
Numerous Christmas concerts concluded with a concert by White Horse Opera in Devizes which marked another "first" - Guy was accompanied on the harp by wife, Sian, for his rendition of "O Holy Night".

On Saturday 9 May 2009, along with Vikki Champion (Soprano) and Richard Fisher (Baritone), Guy sang in a charity recital in aid of the wonderful Children's Music Charity, FreyaBeya Piano accompaniment was provided by the hugely talented Paul Turner and interval harp music was provided by Sian Edwards. The recital was a complete sell-out and raised over £1000 for the charity. For an account of the recital, please see the Blog entry "Amore! Love is in the Aria". A number of people have asked if there will be another recital next year. With such a fabulous acoustic and a wonderfully appreciative audience, the idea is certainly tempting! |
